The countdown has already begun for Metallica make your triumphant arrival in Madrid. The Angelenos will perform next July 12 and 14 in it Metropolitanin two concerts part of his tour ‘M72’. We are counting the hours until we can enjoy live James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. And, precisely, the latter has become news in recent days for some statements in which he recalled his beginnings with the band.

FIRST CONTACTS

In an interesting talk at The Bone from radio station 107.7, Trujillo traveled to those concerts to present the album ‘St. Anger’ in 2003. An important date for him, since they were his first steps with Metallica. Robert Trujillo commented on how he experienced those initial nerves: What I remember most about 2003 is that I didn’t know what the setlist was going to be each night. It was like very free. And I don’t know if it was on purpose or we were so overwhelmed or Lars was so overwhelmed that he couldn’t tell me exactly what we were going to play.

Logically, the pressure could not be greater and he tried to cope with it as best he could: “So I was learning songs like ‘Phantom Lord’ on the fly. And it had been a long time since they played ‘Phantom Lord’. There was all this energy around me and my head was like swimming with the pressure of the show, the pressure of being the new bassist, but also the pressure of having to learn a song first thing in the afternoon on the day we were going to play it”.

Metallica songs are a challenge, but also, I think that around that same time, we were playing in the legendary San Quentin prison. Many things were happening at the same time. It was like, ‘Welcome to your new life,’” Trujillo added.

This is where the adaptation of the artist in question comes into play: You have to learn, adapt and do the best you can, and that’s how it was at that concert at the Fillmore. I got to work, and when I caught up a couple years later, I said, ‘I’m going to do everything I can to learn songs that we’re not even playing and that aren’t even on the radar.’ ‘I’m going to learn ‘Orion’. I’m going to learn ‘Dyers Eve’. I don’t like being on the edge, having to learn songs in a day or something like that. So I found a way to update myself”.
