The actor Bernard Hillrecognized for his roles in Titanic and the emblematic saga of The Lord of the ringsdied this morning at the age of 79, his agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed to BBC News.
Hill’s career
The British actor gave life to Captain Edward Smith in the iconic film that established Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet in 1997. Years later, he would play the king Theodenone of the most mythical characters in JRR Tolkien’s universe, in Peter Jackson’s acclaimed trilogy.
Bernard had more than 40 years of experience in television, theater and film, and for this, he was part of multiple productions, even being awarded a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Cast for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ with his companions.
His most relevant role came from the BBC series Boys from the Blackstuffin which he played Yosser Hughes, a character struggling to cope with unemployment in Liverpool.
Bernard Hill’s last job before he died was in the second season of the series The Responder, a BBC drama headed by Martin Freeman, which premieres this Sunday, May 5.
