The lawsuit was filed this Thursday by Fiona Harveythe woman who claims to be the inspiration for this Netflix hit, before a US district court for the central district of California.

The complaint, collected by the American media Variety, begins by citing the title of the first episode of the series, directed and performed by Richard Gadd: ““This is a true story” (This is a true story).

According to the lawsuit, it is a lie told “out of greed and lust for fame; a lie designed to attract more viewers, gain more attention, make more money and brutally destroy the life of the plaintiff, Fiona Harvey, an innocent woman defamed by Netflix and Richard Gadd at an unprecedented magnitude and scale.”

Harvey filed his complaint against Netflix “for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, gross negligence and violations of the right of publicity” through the alleged lies told against her in the series and for which she demands at least 170 million dollars in damages.

The 34-page document includes a string of clippings and extracts from the series that are denied or specified by the plaintiff.

‘Baby reindeer’ landed on Netflix last April to tell the story of Gadd, who plays a fictional version of himself called Donny Dunn.
