There is mourning in Colombian music. At the age of 105, the teacher Rafael Campo Miranda died.

He composer of classics such as ‘Lamento Naufrago’, ‘Pájaro Amarillo’, ‘Nube Viajera’, among other songs, died from complications derived from pneumonia and for which he had been admitted eight days ago to the La Misericordia Clinic, in Barranquilla.

His daughter Margarita Campo Vives, remembered her father’s last moments.

“We are very shocked by the death of my father. He died at 105 years old and eight days ago he got pneumonia. He was already better, He was recovering and, in fact, they were going to move him here to my apartment. They had already brought oxygen to my house and when he came they confirmed his death in the early morning,” he said.

Margarita added that her father “left songs that today are relics of Colombian music. That is the legacy that my father leaves, of all those beautiful songs that he composed.”

The composer was born in Soledad, Atlántico, on August 7, 1918, and he was very dedicated to his profession in the field of teaching and research.

On April 2, 1951, he married María del Socorro Vives Trespalacios and they had three children: Rafael, Margarita and Marta.

Study at Colegio Barranquilla (CODEBA) and entered the School of Fine Arts at the Universidad del Atlántico.

The teacher makes himself known for the classic ‘Playa’ and then with ‘Lamento Naufrago’, which becomes the official anthem of Puerto Colombia.
