In Planeta Rica, Córdoba, the community is known for its entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to work. Although they have traditionally focused on agriculture and livestock, they are currently exploring new business opportunities.

A clear example of this is the new Alejandría solar park, built by the French multinational GreenYellow Colombia, which has provided work to more than 350 people including locals, contractors, areas of influence and women, who have committed to carrying out the dream of the entire region: achieving the energy transition.

“For us, this project represents a very significant milestone. It allows us to demonstrate that the municipality of Planeta Rica and the department of Córdoba in general are ideal areas to develop solar projects. This is our second solar farm in the municipality, after the GreenYellow plant “Solar Aurora”, said Felipe Camargo, CEO of GreenYellow Colombia, adding that “We have been able to hire local labor to develop our parks, thus promoting the training of the area’s workforce in new technologies and expanding their possibilities for future employment. Furthermore, a very interesting aspect of this plant is its coexistence with forestry and environmental preservation. “We have enormous respect for the environmental heritage of the people of Córdoba, which is why we were very careful in the preservation and care of the land.”.

And, for seven months under temperatures close to 34 degrees Celsius, outdoor workers proved to be true energy heroes. Now, with satisfaction, they celebrate the conclusion of this solar project, which is already contributing energy to the National Interconnected System (SIN). In fact, in the words of Alvaro Charry, Project Manager Utility at GreenYellow Colombia, “In this territory, where a thermal sensation of excessive heat is generated, is where the energy transition in the country is built. The Alexandria solar park is already operating and we are currently producing 100 percent renewable energy.”.

A joint work

In line with the above, the commitment and dedication of all those involved, from the GreenYellow Colombia team to direct and indirect workers, are a source of great satisfaction. Their contribution has been fundamental to the success of this important engineering project, meeting the established objectives and joining the strategy called “Outbreak 6GW”, led by the National Government.

“We are currently in the department of Córdoba, where we are leading the fair energy transition. It is in this region where most of the country’s photovoltaic projects are being installed and it fills us with great joy to see solar parks like Alejandría in operation. From the Government we continue to work hand in hand with companies, territorial entities and environmental entities to guarantee that projects are carried out with the highest standards and within the necessary deadlines to cover Colombia’s energy demand. At the same time, we allow us to diversify our energy matrix. “assured the Vice Minister of Energy, Javier Campillo.

Córdoba, the soul of good energy

Along with clean energy generation, this project has opened new doors for local residents to gain knowledge and opportunities, especially for more young women to enter the energy industry.

Yarlenis Ángel, who worked as a road assistant, reported that “It was an incredible experience to have been on the construction site. It is my first work experience and it feels quite heavy because I was in charge of directing the machines and cars and maintaining order on the project roads, both internal and external. It is a new experience of total pleasure. Being here is an impressive pride.”.

Other details

The Alejandría solar park has 22 thousand solar modules distributed over 21 hectares and an installed capacity of 14.3 MWp. Likewise, it will generate 21 thousand MWh/year and it is expected that 11 thousand tons of CO2 emissions will be reduced, contributing significantly to the mitigation of climate change and the care of the environment. The CO2 emissions avoided are equivalent, in perspective, to the planting of 320 thousand new trees in Colombia.

Added to this is that it has tracker technology, which allows the solar panels to follow the path of the sun during the day, maximizing energy production. This technological innovation not only makes the Alexandria solar park more efficient, but also sets a standard for future renewable energy projects.

The Alejandría solar park represents progress towards progress, sustainable development and the expansion of energy sources in Colombia. Its ability to produce clean energy and its positive effects make it a significant project that will be remembered by the Córdoba community.
