Barbara Lackington Schacht has abandoned the Miss Universe Chile 2024 beauty contest. Among the reasons that motivated her decision was her health, since she is currently undergoing treatment for an eating disorder that she suffers from.
“It is true that I was going to represent (in the contest) people with eating and mental disorders, but right now I am treating myself”says Lackington.
Currently, Barbara is undergoing treatment with a multidisciplinary team. “It was not easy to make the decision to leave Miss Chile, it was a dream for me to participate, but I think I had to prioritize other things”he explained.
Regarding his health, he revealed that “I was diagnosed with purgative anorexia. As I have said before, I face mental disorders, not just eating disorders. I have managed my mental disorders with medication. I want to get better and I want to be healthy. They told me that what I have couldn’t be fixed overnight, but I’m working on it.“.
The psychiatrist and ED specialist, Patricia Cordellaindicates that purgative anorexia is characterized “by periods of dietary restriction, eating, and vomiting.”
In this sense, the former candidate for Miss Chile sincerely stated that “The regular thing in my day to day life was the compulsive control of the amount of calories he consumed and the precise time at which he did so.”
