The meeting in which, for the only time, the three greats of the Necessary War – José Martí, Máximo Gómez and Antonio Maceo – met, was remembered today, 129 years after its completion, by inhabitants of this place near the town of Dos Caminos, in the Santiago municipality of San Luis.
In the National Monument and under the shadow of the leafy Tamarindo tree – which, according to many, was the only witness of the meeting -, pioneers and young people called “for unity, in the midst of diversity, as a guarantor of the continuity of the only Cuban Revolution, which had in this place an important moment to chart the destiny of the struggles for independence”, with the presence of political and governmental authorities of the demarcation.
Since Republican times, commemorative activities have been carried out every May 5, reinforced after the triumph of the Revolution given its historical importance, as it constitutes the most important meeting a few months after the beginning of the feat – although tense and controversial, given the different positions on the military and political powers that the revolutionary leaders had.
