At the facilities of the Holiday Inn Hotel in Bucaramanga, a large group of representatives of the hotel sector participates in the 3rd Colombian Lodging Convention and the 72nd National Assembly of Cotelco.

In his speech, Juan Pablo Remolina, executive director of Prosantander, stated that it is “time to recover the Magdalena River. It is the longest in Colombia with 1,550 hectares and 77% of the national population lives in its hydrographic basin and 85% of the GDP is generated.”

He highlighted that 233 species of fish from seven orders and 33 families live in Magdalena, a figure that corresponds to 14.5% of the diversity of freshwater fish in Colombia.

Remolina stated that the Magdalena River is a great tourist attraction and engine of economic development and there are currently two projects underway to strengthen the navigability of passengers on the river:

1. Cormagdalena: construction of 58 docks in 37 riverside municipalities and rehabilitation of 6 docks in 6 municipalities. For 2024 there is a budget of $18,000 million.

2. Fontur: Construction and installation of 88 tourist piers, of which 49% are on the banks of the Magdalena River. The project has a value of $46,791 million.

On the other hand, he highlighted that among the benefits of the Magdalena River is that river transportation is the most economical and clean; reduces transportation costs by 40% and greenhouse gases by 60%.
