César Vallejo came back and beat Sporting Cristal 2-1 this Tuesday at the Mansiche stadium thanks to a decisive goal from Jairo Vélez.
Vélez put César Vallejo ahead with his second goal of the game a minute before the break, finishing a low free kick into the net that slipped into the left corner.
Santiago González scored for the visitors.
González had helped Cristal get off to a good start by opening the scoring after three minutes, leaving the goalkeeper unable to stop him despite having touched him. The attacking midfielder finished low to the center of the goal after combining with defensive midfielder Martín Távara. Vélez, who beat the goalkeeper with a deflected shot, equalized the contest in the 20th minute with the first of his two goals. Carlos Cabello provided the assist. That spurred the hosts on and Vélez’s winning goal came in the 44th minute.
Yorleys Mena wasted great chances for UCV, while Cristal lamented the lack of composure of Gustavo Cazonatti, Irven Ávila and Ignácio.
