The Federico Lleras Acosta hospital reported in a statement that on April 29, around 3:37 PM, a 17-month-old female patient was admitted to the emergency department, accompanied by her mother. The girl presented symptoms such as feverish spikes, edema in the lower extremities, dry cough with vomiting and signs of dehydration, lasting three days.
The medical staff evaluated the patient and determined a diagnosis of dengue with warning signs and dengue hepatitis, with a high risk of bleeding and clinical deterioration.

According to the statement, on April 30, the patient was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit due to a high risk of hemodynamic and hematological compromise. presenting tachycardia and respiratory difficulty, requiring the use of high-pressure oxygen with 50% saturation.
During her stay in the unit, the patient developed severe dengue, dengue hepatitis, polyserositis, left pleural effusion and severe respiratory distress syndrome, requiring invasive mechanical ventilation as a priority to guarantee the airway.

For their part, the hospital directors stated that The girl’s parents reacted aggressively to this intervention by the medical staff.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the health team, the patient died at 10:22 PM on April 30, after 36 minutes of resuscitation attempts. “The Federico Lleras Acosta hospital deeply regrets the death of the minor and expresses its solidarity with her parents and family,” the document says.
The case is being analyzed by the relevant authorities.
