The shipment departed from Santa Marta bound for the Port of Savannah, Georgia, thus marking the beginning of a new era in the trade of this fruit in the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jhenifer Mojica, rhighlighted the joint work between the portfolio and the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA)to support the entire process from planting to marketing.

“This success demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting producers and companies in the Colombian agricultural sector, opening new business opportunities in international markets,” he said.

He added that “it is expected that this will be the first of many shipments of sugar mango by sea, and that they add to the exports to the European Union and Middle Eastern countries, consolidating Colombia as an important country in the global market.”

The exported fruit was grown on the Las Margaritas and Mi Cabañita farms, located in the department of Magdalena. Both have the corresponding registrations with the ICA.

Likewise, the packing plant and the exporting company andare duly qualified and have demonstrated a commitment to quality and international standards.

During 2023, 211,824 kilograms of sugar mango by air. Between January and April of this year, the country has exported 105,809 kilograms of this fruit.
