Wildcat release by the Fauna team of the Ministry of the Environment of Santa Fe

The team from the Fauna directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the province of Santa Fe works at the Ribera headquarters, located in Rosario, with a protocol of actions and tasks for the care of the species. Last week, a team from the Argentine Naval Prefecture rescued a melanistic wildcat on a buoy in the Paraná River near Arroyo Seco. After moving it and evaluating its condition, today it was returned to its natural habitat.

After the animal was rescued, the Animal Rescue Brigade transferred it to the Ribera headquarters where it was evaluated by specialists. The wildcat was fed and did not need medical assistance, as it was in good condition.

The wild cat is an animal found throughout the country. It is usually found in wooded or rocky areas close to rivers, streams or lakes. Their diet is based on birds, rodents and vipers.

Care of rescued species
At the Ribera headquarters, before the arrival of each new copy, the file is prepared, in which the greatest amount of information possible is recorded. This clarifies the date of entry, the place where it was found, details of the species, if it has any type of injury, among others.

Beyond this, if the animal is damaged, it contacts the La Esmeralda Rescue Center, in the city of Santa Fe, to be intervened. At the same time, in case of emergencies, we work in coordination with the veterinary medical staff and the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of Rosario.
