“Let’s do a economic incentive so that residents can be tempted to these specialties. And at the same time, we are working with the different universities of Mendoza so that they are careers for university specialists.”

Currently, a resident doctor earns $400,000 monthly and with this stimulus will win $850,000 always within what is understood as a priority for the health system of the Province.

There is a lack of Pediatricians, Family Doctors and Therapists

The crisis in Health and the exodus of professionals was evidenced in recent years by the lack of coverage of vacancies in these areas, each time the call was made for these areas. Even recently, as UNO reported, 50% of doctors who graduate from Medicine courses choose not to pursue specialties and practice only with the degree they graduated with.

For this reason, in terms of healthcare, the deficit was observed in Family Medicine, Pediatricians and in the pandemic, Therapists. Sometimes being an odyssey in the private system, above all, that the assistance is in a timely manner and not with delays as seen especially in the peaks of respiratory diseases in pediatrics.

The Mendoza Association of Health Professionals (Ampros) repeatedly denounced the lack of stimulus policies for specialists to stay in the province and do not emigrate to Chile or other provinces.

In 2023 there were strong demonstrations in which the loss of human resources and resignations were revealed, as well as the lack of pediatric guards in the private sector.

This problem was recognized by the Minister of Health at the time, Ana María Nadal, who also analyzed that it was a national phenomenon and not just a reality in Mendoza.

Guards will be paid for residents of critical specialties

So that they can quickly enter the world of work, the new Residence Law in Mendoza will allow that from the second year of completing the specialization they will be able to be hired by the hospital in which he is training to perform guard duty.

Currently, the work of guards is not recognized because it is considered part of the training process.

According to data from the health system, today the 24-hour guard costs around $200,000 on weekdays and $250,000 for weekends.

Along with an economic award for those doctors who specialize in the areas required by the system, they will be able to accredit this training at the universities of Mendoza, with a postgraduate degree. At the moment, they are only certified by the Ministry of Health.

“We are carrying out all the procedures before the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation (Coneau) and in a synergy with the three universities of Mendoza, which have a degree in Medicine and they are working to be able to promote these postgraduate courses,” said the doctor member of the team of the Ministry of Health.

The new residents will not yet have the course in the medical faculties and it is expected that in the next few years it will be effective.
