In the municipality of Palermo, President Gustavo Petro announced the start of the construction for a Rice Processing Plant, to contribute to modernizing and transforming rice production in the department
It will be an alliance with the Association of Users of the Land Adaptation District (ASOJUNCAL), that they will build a rice mill in the municipality of Palermo and that will allow the economic reactivation of the region.
Luis Alberto Higuera, President of the Rural Development Agency, indicated that “it is about fulfilling a peasant dream. ASOJUNCAL is a local association that has been working hard for many years.In January they have advanced a lot in terms of rice cultivation, “It is a sum of wills, from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Rural Development Agency, Asojuncal, the Colrice Fund and Fedearroz, as well as the Government of Huila for a total of 13,095 million pesos, for the project.”
“For the first time in this sector, the small producer is the owner of the transformation of the product in a mill and is the owner of his brand and not the supplier of the raw material so that the middleman earns more, we want farmers who own the entire production chain”said Higuera.
