In each of those parishes he left a fantastic memory in his parishioners, anecdotes and many stories to tell, his vocation is so authentic that he stands out with his works. And the opportunities in life have come to him from the hand of God, a great example of this was his arrival in the Army. Father Mora Gómez joined the USA Army Chaplain Corps in 2019. On November 28 he received his officer promotion directly as Captain in the United States Army, becoming the only Colombian Catholic priest in the United States Army

Since his incorporation he has made a difference and has not remained simply a chaplain but has prepared himself not only physically, but also intellectually, he completed the Leadership and Basic Training Course for Army Chaplains (CHBOLC) andn Fort Jackson, North Carolina. In the midst of the pandemic he was assigned as Chaplain of the 1-46th Infantry Battalion, of the Brigade in Fort Benning, Georgia, then he was assigned to the Combat Support and Props Battalion, 194th, of the Second Army Division in Camp Humphreys, Korea, and as of July 16, 2022 he is assigned to the 832nd Artillery Battalion at Fort Greeg-Adams, Virginia and is a member of the order of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree.

Father Mora Gomez during his military career has obtained licenses from the Department of Defense, as a social worker, family counselor, qualified instructor of Resilience and Suicide Prevention and Management, Emotional Intelligence, cybersecurity and anti-terrorism programs.

Additionally, he has stood out so much that he has more decorations than usual for the rank and time he has spent as a soldier, Service Medal, National Medal for Service to the defense of the country, Medal of Special Recognition in the Army, Medal for Service in the Republic of Korea, and the Medal for Service Outside the Country.

Alerta Tolima asked Father Mora Gómez to describe himself beyond his priestly work and this is what he told us: “I enjoy good food, cooking and tasting, cars and mainly from travel. I am skilled with computers and I suffer with the results of my favorite team, Deportes Tolima. “I have worn the Deportes Tolima shirt all over the world, it always goes in my luggage.”

In a photo gallery that he was kind enough to provide us, Father Guillermo León Mora can be seen touring the world, proud of the vinotinto and oro, wearing the shirt of the team he loves.
