The squeeze, led by the University Student Federation (FEU), revived the city’s main park: Calixto García with flags and colors.
Those present also denounced Israel’s genocide against the people of Palestine and advocated for that people’s right to sovereignty and self-determination.
The FEU brings together at the Hugs Festival young people from various countries who study in Cuba, who participate alongside Cuban university students in the cultural galas of Traditions and cultural identity, as an example of the work of the Movement of Art Fans of the houses of high studies of the territory.
The program includes exhibitions about the customs of their country of origin: typical costumes and foods, dances, music, crafts and others.
The name Fiesta de los Abrazos comes from the tradition of Chilean communists of meeting in a park in the country’s capital, after the repression of the dictatorship, to meet again with their families and companions.
The event arose in 2004 due to an initiative of foreign students in Cuba, to promote the exchange of their traditions and share experiences, during the World Festival of Artistic Youth.
