UCN academic unit performs key work in the cultivation and dissemination of sciences in the Institution.

Emotion, history and presentation of recognition included the celebration of the 52 years of the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN), a unit that for more than half a century has carried out key work in the dissemination and cultivation of Pharmaceutical sciences. , Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry at the Institution.

At the ceremony, which was attended by university authorities, academic staff, officials and students, the contribution that the entity makes in the areas of training and improvement of scientists and professionals was highlighted, as well as the work carried out in teaching, research, undergraduate and graduate training, and links with the environment.

The contribution that the unit makes in addressing the teaching needs in different careers and disciplines taught at the UCN was highlighted at the event. Currently, the faculty is made up of four departments: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. In addition, it has the UCN-LSA Analytical Services Laboratory and the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory.

A university is not conceived without a Faculty of Sciences“, highlighted the rector of the UCN, Dr. Rodrigo Alda Varas, who on the occasion stated that the unit constitutes “a cornerstone” in the development of the Institution.

He added that there are four elements that are permanently present in the unit: strength, entrepreneurship, innovation and teaching. “It seems to me that these four elements are an attribute of everything that is done within the Faculty of Sciences, and that we can look over time, in a rearview mirror, in the different missionary functions.“, highlighted the authority.

Meanwhile, the dean, Dr. Luis del Campo, highlighted that in more than half a century the evolution has been enormous, along with highlighting the contribution of the people who have contributed in the past and contribute in the present with the development of the unit. .

He provided figures and referred to the work and progress in research, teaching, ongoing projects, accreditation, infrastructure and links with the environment, among other topics that mark the imprint of the work carried out.

We are here to celebrate the anniversary of our Faculty of Sciences, in this case 52 years since its creation, and we must do so full of pride and satisfaction, because we have grown permanently and always in search of the quality that we believe a faculty should have. like ours”, he emphasized.

RECOGNITIONS

During the day, mention was made and recognitions were given to different people who, with their work and contribution, have contributed to the work and development of the unit.

In gratitude for his management as director of the Department and director of Postgraduate Programs, Eduardo Fierro Morales, as former director of the Department of Mathematics, was awarded; and Cristóbal Rojas Gómez-Lobo, as former director of Postgraduate Studies of the Department of Physics. Likewise, academic Miguel Ángel Cabrera Pérez, National Science Prize in Cuba, 2023, was highlighted on the occasion.

Likewise, the following were recognized for 10 years of service: Douglas Fernando Mundarain, Luisberis Velázquez Abad, Marcela Vallejo Santiago, Adriana Tapia Barraza, Anna Alarcón Steel, Carlos Huerta Briones and Michel Molina del Sol.

Viviana Vera Lara and Andrea Torres Araya were awarded for 20 years of service. Meanwhile, a special recognition for his 40 years of service in the Institution and the unit was received by the outstanding academic Dr. Jaime Llanos Silva.

Recognitions for developing relevant research from the Faculty of Sciences were received by academics: Martha Hengst López, César Bonilla Díaz, Genly León Torres and Claudia Núñez Soto.

In recognition of the good evaluation of their students, dedication, innovation and contribution to the development of teaching, they received distinctions as outstanding teachers: Miguel Ángel Cabrera Pérez, Marcela Vallejo Santiago and Ronald Nelson González. Meanwhile, Yuvineza Gómez Leyton was awarded as an outstanding professor.

In merit of their career as students and members of the community, both university and social, and for their active participation in various areas, the following were recognized: Paulina Valdivia Rojas, Rodrigo Salinas Cruz, Mauro Olivares Silva and Cristian de Lartundo Salinas.

Likewise, on the occasion the contribution of outstanding officials was recognized: Jenny Ordoñez Becerra, Marta Narváez Giraldo and Mario Espinoza Araya. As outstanding administrative officials, the following were recognized: Ana Campos Astorga, Carlos Morón Solís, Dániza Ramírez Martínez, Elena Arcos Escobar and Nicole Gutiérrez Plaza.
