Bogotá DC, May 22, 2024. On Thursday, May 23, in Bahía Solano, Chocó, the expansion and improvement works of the Luis López de Mesa Educational Institution – main headquarters will begin, in compliance with the commitments of the Ministry of Education with the Civic Strike Committee for Salvation and Dignity of Chocó 2016 – 2017. With the participation of officials from the Ministry of Education, the Educational Infrastructure Financing Fund (FFIE), the Mayor’s Office of Bahía Solano and the Government of Chocó, the signing of the act of initiation of works and socialization of the project to both the educational community and local authorities. At this meeting, the contractor and the construction supervisor will be presented, as well as the scope, times and costs of the intervention to the educational institution.

The expansion and improvement of the Luis López de Mesa Educational Institution is part of the educational infrastructure commitments that the Ministry of Education assumed with the Civic Strike Committee for the Salvation and Dignity of Chocó 2016 – 2017. Consequently, with these commitments, The Minister of National Education, Aurora Vergara Figueroa, in February 2024, ratified her commitment to the Board of Education and the Government of Chocó, assuming 100% of the financing of this work that will benefit more than 800 students with an investment of 5,007 million pesos that will be carried out through the Educational Infrastructure Financing Fund (FFIE).

Likewise, within the framework of the Ministry of National Education’s commitment to an education that restores human dignity, three EI Luis López de Mesa headquarters are targeted for this territory to be intervened by Findeter and the FFIE: San José (Huaca), Sirena del Mar (Playa Potes) and Secundino Rivas (El Huina). Additionally, three rural locations of educational institutions in the Emberá Dobidá people are in the validation process to be served through Findeter.

With the beginning of this important work for the inhabitants of the municipality of Bahía Solano, the commitment of the National Government to the Department of Chocó and the Civic Strike Committee is reaffirmed with the purpose of advancing the strengthening of education as the transforming force of the territories.
