The city woke up with a palpable air of expectation on June 2. The 1,128 squares destined for the National Electoral Institute (INE) in the capital began to be installed from 7:30 in the morning like small democratic shelters, and in some neighborhoods, schools and parking lots, they lined up, ready to receive voters.

However, behind the facade of enthusiasm and civic duty, some contrasts were hidden that mark this election day.

The challenge of the organization

The poll workers, nervous but committed, prepared for a historic day. The basic, contiguous, extraordinary and special squares were assembled like puzzle pieces.

But, behind the scenes: the delays and slowness in the application of the protocol revealed the difficulties. Officials who did not arrive on time, poor communication with the presidents, secretaries and tellers, and at the same time, the urgency of organizing the furniture. Despite this, enthusiasm persisted.

As president of the polling station section 928, Juan José Rodríguez He highlighted the importance of collaborative work and citizen responsibility in this election.

“From 7:30 in the morning until 6 in the afternoon, we will be serving voters and we expect high citizen participation.”

The diversity of voters

On the street Xicotencatlof the San Miguelito neighborhood, the older adult population predominated. Young people, on the other hand, faced challenges. Some, confused, forgot their credentials to vote at home. The strain of arriving on time put pressure on them. Thus, election day began with a mixture of composure and confusion.

The backdrop: re-elections and protagonisms

Many of the voters, in low voices, commented in the lines that the campaigns had been rough and tense. That it would have been a season of media positions that sought confrontation, while other candidates longed to be protagonists. Others criticized the re-election of some and how their vote was at stake.

The democratic treasure

Despite the chiaroscuro, the city and its squares expected the participation of one million 271 thousand 336 inhabitants registered with the INE.

Each vote represents the construction of a more just future; This morning became a scene of democracy in action. The polls opened their doors, and voters brought with them the hope of a better country.

On this election day, the idealists and rationalists were intertwined with the determination to improve their quality of life as citizens, although each for their own part. Democracy, imperfect but vital, continues its course…
