Mexican residents of the Bay Area were not far behind in reacting to the victory of Claudia Sheinbaum as the new president of Mexico.

And that historic moment has aroused diverse opinions in Silicon Valley.

“I hope for good things, I know that good things are coming and that it does a lot for women, and that the idea that women cannot do it because we can remain,” said Lorena Sepúlveda, resident.

“Something very good since Mexico suffers from abuse of women and for the first time in history a woman is going to govern the country,” said Javier Alcantar, a Mexican resident of San José.

With Claudia Sheinbaum, the ruling party will continue to govern.

“If he brings the same ideas as López Obrador, that is great because that man was the best Mexico has ever had,” said Mario Pineda, a resident of Mexico City.

“Let’s see if she would get to work and fight crime. What we are about is against crime,” said Vicente Fajardo, a Mexican resident of San José.

But there are those who hope to see changes in public policies, especially in terms of security.

“May there be a way to walk in our country, that we can live. They charge us all a fee for everything and that is not right,” said Vicente Fajardo, a Mexican resident of San José.

They also expect measures against organized crime.

“No, forget it, what else would I want for the corruption of drug traffickers to end,” said Martha Elena Jiménez, a Mexican resident of San José.

Mexicans who have lived in Silicon Valley for decades also want to see efforts focused on the diaspora, which last year alone sent more than $30 million in the first half of 2023, and they are hopeful, they say, that a female figure will bring positive bets.

“I feel happy because women can and have also shown that we can get ahead as single, working mothers and some of us have studied a lot to get ahead,” said Margarita Silva, a Mexican resident of San José.
