The event is organized by the Municipalities Division of the Undersecretary of Regional and Administrative Development (Subdere) through its Municipal Development Department, and the associations of municipalities of the Los Ríos Region.
The Third Meeting of Associations of Municipalities Macro Southern Region will be held this June 6 and 7 in Valdivia.
Mayors, councilors, presidents of associations of municipalities and executive secretaries of municipal associations are invited to the activity, from the regions of Ñuble to Magallanes, and its main objective is to strengthen joint work strategies between regional governments, public services and municipalities.
The Undersecretary of Regional Development, Francisca Perales, stated that the purpose of this meeting is to strengthen governance through collaboration with regional governments and the improvement of sectoral public services, review the progress of each Association of Municipalities and deliberate on the future challenges for the year 2025 “Within the framework of the contribution of the Associations of Municipalities in the preparation of the National Decentralization Policy that President Gabriel Boric Font will propose to the country, as part of his commitment to decentralization, and that It constitutes one of the four transversal axes of its Government Program,” he noted.
Program
The day on Thursday, June 6, will begin with welcome greetings from local, regional and national authorities. The opening talk will be given by the Undersecretary of Regional Development, Francisca Perales; while the module called “How to move towards collaborative work between the municipality and public programs with high impact on the life of the commune?” is scheduled for 10 a.m.
This space will have two exhibitions. The first will be offered by the executive secretary of the Association of Municipalities of Los Ríos, Érica Yáñez, who will present the experience of working with the Regional Government of Los Ríos on a health program to reduce waiting lists. The presentation will be commented by the mayor of Valdivia and president of the Association of Municipalities of Los Ríos, Carla Amtmann.
In the second turn, the Seremi of the Environment of Los Ríos, Alberto Tacón, will address the issue of watershed management, which will be commented on by the mayor of Los Lagos and president of the Association of Municipalities for the Conservation of Biodiversity, Aldo Retamal . Then commission work will be carried out.
In the afternoon, from 2:30 p.m., the module “Priorities and challenges of joint work between associations of municipalities and regional governments for the next four years” will be held. In this space the mayor of Panguipulli, Pedro Burgos, will present; the mayor of Río Bueno, Carolina Silva; and the mayor of Valdivia, Carla Amtmann.
The event will be moderated by the mayor of Concepción and president of the Association of Municipalities of the Biobío Region, Álvaro Ortiz. The mayor of La Unión and president of the Association of Cordillera de la Costa Municipalities, Andrés Reinoso, will comment on the intervention; as well as the governor(s) of Los Ríos, Paz de la Maza. Subsequently, a new commission work session will be held.
The day on Friday, June 7, also includes commission work starting at 10 a.m., in which topics such as fiscal, political and administrative decentralization will be addressed, as well as the strengthening of capacities and institutional conditions at the subnational level. The meeting will end with a plenary session and final conclusions starting at 12 noon.
