A total of 300 athletes from various towns in the department are getting ready to participate in the national final of the 2023 version of the Intercollegiate Games, at the headquarters of Bogotá and Valledupar, between May 25 and June 10. In total, 3,725 students – 1,997 in team sports and 1,728 in individual sports – from all over the country, will participate in the final instance of the most important school sports event in Colombia.
Athletes from Arboletes, El Bagre, Bello, Carepa, Granada, Marinilla, Envigado, Medellín, Sabanalarga among other towns; They will compete in sports such as athletics, chess, badminton, soccer, indoor soccer, skating, volleyball and swimming.
Team sports achieved this classification in the regional phase that took place in Armenia, between April 5 and 10. For their part, individual sports qualified for the national final, thanks to their good performances in the regional zones of Andes and Tarazá, in the month of October 2023.
As announced, athletes who have an outstanding performance will be awarded university scholarships. It should be noted that the national final of the 2024 intercollegiate games will be held in the month of November of this same year.
Sports implementation
A total of 119 municipalities throughout the department participated in the call to receive the sports kits that will be delivered by Indeportes Antioquia, with the purpose of developing healthy lifestyle programs in the different municipalities. The investment executed by the Entity for this program was 4,990 million pesos, where the municipalities acquired the commitment to hire a monitor to provide support in the execution and orientation to the population on sports practice.
According to the departmental sports entity, of the 124 municipalities that make up the department of Antioquia, only five did not participate in the call scheduled for 2024.
