Since the moment of the overflowing of the ‘Niño Rodríguez’ stream and the ‘Chimicuica’ stream, the departmental government has been diligent in accompanying the actions carried out by the municipal mayor’s office of Plato, the first responder to the emergency, and the relief agencies. By directive of Governor Rafael Martínez, food and non-food aid will be delivered to affected families.

As part of the route of accompaniment to the actions deployed by the relief corps and the Mayor’s Office of the municipality of Plato, which is primarily responsible for establishing a contingency plan to address the effects of the overflow or loss of the channel of the ‘Niño Rodríguez’ stream and the ‘Chimicuica’ stream, officials from the Magdalena Government continue to be present in the town of Apure, where although the level of flooding has already decreased, there is still assistance to the victims.

Governor Rafael Martínez himself will arrive in the township in the next few hours with food and non-food aid for the families that were registered by humanitarian institutions. The president has said that he will continue medical assistance from health professionals from the Basic Teams of the Fray Luis de León Hospital, who have attended to different emergencies since the early hours of Wednesday when the emergency became known.

Governor Martínez reiterates his commitment to the safety and well-being of all the inhabitants of Apure, which is why the department’s bank of yellow machinery continues to be available for response work. The Government is an important part of the Unified Command Post (PMU) that was installed with the presence of local and national authorities to face this situation, which aims to minimize the risks associated with the La Niña phenomenon.

At this moment, the Rosa Cortina Hernández Departmental Educational Institution is being used as a shelter, where teachers and community members have organized community pots to pay for feeding those who have been evacuated, especially minors.
