The department of Boyacá faces several emergencies due to the rainy season after a complex El Niño phenomenon. Jaisson Carreño, Director of the Departmental Risk Management Unit, has warned about the complexity of the situation, which has caused a series of emergencies.

The director of the Departmental Risk Management Unit confirmed the emergencies that are occurring, “the rains have arrived with all their power, we are coordinating with the relief bodies. In Cubará they report to us that Cobaría, Bojabá and Cobugón are the hydrographic basins that have shown the greatest increase in their flows, several families had to be evacuated, fortunately we do not have any injuries or deaths, but we do have a great impact in terms of people who cultivate in this area, that is why we have delivered more than 1,000 humanitarian aid and compensate for this emergency that is being experienced there.”

The official assured that it is not only in Cubará where emergencies have occurred due to the rains, “we have received reports of damages in Tenza, Sutatenza, Santa María, San Luis de Gaceno, Macanal, Chivor, Miraflores, Ramiriquí, Miraflores, we had a report calmer, but everything changed, so we are coordinating with the infrastructure secretariat and relief organizations actions to meet the requirements of the authorities and community.”

The two roads that are most affected by the rains are the two transversal ones that lead to the plain, the Transversal del Cusiana and the Transversal del Sisga, which remain closed. Carreño asked for help from the national government. “We are making a respectful call to the national government so that it can help us with all these requests, we have collapsed secondary and tertiary roads, especially in the Tenza valley area where we are attentive to the work and accompany and support if necessary.”

According to Carreño, more than 70% probability indicates that the La Niña phenomenon will occur in the second half of the year, which will intensify the current challenges. In response to this situation, meetings have been held with the 123 mayors and the Attorney General’s Office to prepare strategies and coordinate the response to possible emergencies.

The person in charge of risk management indicated that all the capacity that the department has is being used to attend to the emergencies that occur, “we are working hard and having yellow machinery to prevent and mitigate the impacts of the rains, it is essential to protect the abutments of works and ensure the capacity to respond to new closures or emergencies.”

Finally, Carreño indicated that Governor Carlos Amaya has already called on the national government to help the department because the emergencies are growing and the technical capacity is not enough, “we hope to be able to resolve the needs that arise as the situation is increasing.”

According to IDEAM, the municipalities of Almeida, Aquitania, Campohermoso, Chiscas, Chivor, Cubará, Guicán, Labranzagrande, Macanal, Miraflores, Pajarito, Paya, Pisba, San Luis de Gaceno and Santa María, are on red alert due to the winter wave. .
