Several weeks ago there was no cancellation on President Gustavo Petro’s agenda. The streak ended this Wednesday, when it was announced that the president would not attend the launch of the education system for solidarity associations (Saes), an event that took place in Barrancabermeja (Santander).

(You can see: After an agitated plenary session, what’s next in the CNE with the cases of President Gustavo Petro?)

Although the arrival of the President had been expected since the morning, it was only until the afternoon hours that the Casa de Nariño communications team confirmed that the president would not be able to fulfill his commitment. The reason is that he was attending government meetings in his office.

President Petro’s lateness and subsequent cancellation caused inconvenience to those attending. At various moments during the event, it was observed how those present demanded the presence of the ruler of the Colombians. “Petro, Petro, Petro”, They shouted in different spaces.

The governor of Santander, the retired general Juvenal Díaz, took advantage of the absence to question the president. It is worth remembering that Díaz is an officer who left the forces in the first purge that Petro carried out as soon as he came to power.

Díaz questioned that he canceled his schedule to attend the event because they announced that the president would be present.

“I am here for three reasons. First because I have a commitment to Barrancabermeja. Second because with everything that can arise in ideological differences, I won in Barrancabermeja and got 40% of the votes. I wanted to make some requests for Barrancabermeja in which I already “I’ve been working”added the president of the Santadereans.
