The governor of Río Negro Alberto Weretilneck sent a project to the Legislature to extend the hydrocarbon concessions for a period of ten years. According to the president, this will attract new investments and maintain and increase employment in the province.
From the Government, they indicated that “the income from the contracts, in addition to being shared with the municipalities and development commissions, will be destined to improve health, safety and infrastructure benefits, among other actions carried out by the province.”
The president assured that “Río Negro will continue to increase its gas and oil production, with more work for the people of Rio Negro”.
Regarding the income generated, he detailed: “We are going to buy patrol cars for the Police and new ambulances for health centers, we will equip the hospitals that we are building in Fernández Oro, Bariloche and Ramos Mexía; “We are going to buy machines for Vialidad Rionegrina, we will collaborate with the development commissions and obviously 10% of the income will be allocated to the municipalities as established by law.”

Extension conditions
The initiative that entered the Legislative Branch specifies a series of conditions that the concessionaire companies must respect to subscribe to the proposed extension agreements. At this point, the Government of Río Negro refers to environmental commitments, prioritization of local labor, investments and activities for the development of hydrocarbon areas, maintenance of facilities and information obligations.
According to Weretilneck, these future 10 years of ties between the operators and the province of Río Negro have extremely positive aspects. In this sense, he highlighted the importance of “maintain and increase the amount of employment, the number of people who work in gas and oil.”

The initiative also empowers the Executive to implement incentive regimes to promote incremental production and other specific investment projects. These incentives may include reductions in royalties and fees, seeking to promote investment and development of the hydrocarbon sector.
Control commission
In order to supervise compliance with the agreements, a commission will be created that will be made up of representatives of the Executive, legislators, members of the CGT, representatives of the producing municipalities, the Chamber of Petroleum Services of Río Negro and the surface officials.
