The Attorney General’s Office has expressed serious concern about the alarming increase in cases of sexual abuse in public and private schools in Bogotá. According to data from the District Secretary of Education, between January and March 2024, 1,664 incidents of abuse against children and adolescents have been recorded.

The Public Ministry has requested a detailed report from the District on the complaints reported in the Early Warning System. This system collects incidents of school aggression, harassment, cyberbullying and other acts that could be classified as crimes against youth sexual freedom and integrity.
In response to this request, it has been demanded that the data be updated and sent monthly to the Attorney General’s office to rigorously monitor this scourge.
The case became more relevant after the complaint by Councilor Diana Diago, who has expressed her concern and questioned the response of the district government. “It is unfortunate what is happening to the children in our city. What is the Ministry of Education and Carlos Fernando Galán doing to make this type of behavior visible, but above all to reduce abuse in schools? Apparently nothing. This government has been in office for almost 5 months and there is no institutional response to this unfortunate situation,” Diago declared.
It is crucial that establishments implement these measures effectively to safeguard the well-being of students and create a safe and protective educational environment.
The Ministry of Education has been called to take urgent measures to prevent and address these cases, while citizens and authorities expect strong actions to stop this worrying increase in sexual abuse in schools in the capital. Keeping information updated and accessible, as well as monitoring the actions taken, will be vital to effectively address this problem.
