Headed by Mayor Roberto Jacob, this Monday the Disaster Risk Management Committee (Cogrid) of the municipality of La Serena met to define preventive actions and coordinate the different situations that could arise due to this week’s rain forecast, among those that highlight the shifts of the different units and the enabling of a 24-hour Call Center from the beginning and until the end of the emergency if it is decreed according to the complications generated by the rain that is expected to begin this Thursday.
“We have to be prepared and do it in time. We have identified the main points that require help, we will have a telephone number enabled so that the community can notify us of the situations in their sector, we will have social workers on duty and also all the delegations functioning, and if necessary, see the assistance centers. temporary shelter,” explained the mayor, who called on the community to request plastic in advance at the delegations that correspond to their sector.
Likewise, the communal chief reaffirmed the key role that the Municipal Delegations have in addressing the emergency with the links that allow resources to be prioritized to serve the residents in the territory, also specifying that the critical points of the commune have already been been informed to Senapred -by requiring a sectoral solution that is beyond the work of the municipality-, which are classified according to the type of risk to be addressed. In parallel, each Delegation has continued cleaning rainwater drains to facilitate their evacuation and prevent them from collapsing due to accumulated leaves or garbage.
Ricardo Bruna, professional from the municipality’s Disaster Risk Management Directorate, explained that all units were called to this meeting for this mitigation and preparation phase, to address in a coordinated manner the most complex situations that eventually occur, such as flooding. of homes or streets that prevent vehicular traffic. In this context, he added that they will be attentive to the rural sector of the commune, which is done in coordination between officials of the Rural Municipal Delegation in coordination with the neighborhood associations of the different localities.
For this reason, and given that the amount and intensity of the rainfall that would affect the commune has been varying, the Serenense municipality will continue to monitor over the next few days to be more certain about how the frontal system will develop in order to have greater precision in the first response delivered to the community.
