Sabina Mazo, the Antioquian who has raised the name of Colombia in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), returns to the country at a crucial moment in her career. Recognized as the greatest Colombian exponent in this sport, Mazo has competed in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), the most prestigious MMA company in the United States, and is the only Colombian to hold two LFA (Legacy Fighting Alliance) world titles.

At the height of his career, a serious back injury has prevented him from competing since August of last year. This unfortunate interruption of hers has forced her to seek specialized treatment. “I will spend 4 weeks in Colombia where I will undergo stem cell treatment on my back, I have a serious injury for which I have not been able to compete again,” Mazo explained.

However, Sabina not only returns to Colombia for medical reasons. She will take advantage of her stay to hold a series of seminars in various cities, where she will share her vast experience with other fighters. “There would be 3 seminars in Medellín, two in Cali and one in Ibagué,” Mazo commented.

In addition, she will be accompanied by the Venezuelan Piera “La Fiera” Rodriguez, another prominent figure in world MMA. Together, they will hold 18 seminars in total between June 13 and August 2, not only in Colombia, but also in Panama and Venezuela. “The idea is to be able to share the knowledge we have acquired in our sports careers,” Mazo said.

In Medellín, the seminars will be held at Zona de Combate, MMA Colombia and Gracie Colombia. In Cali, the activities will take place at the headquarters of the women’s group Te Quiero Segura and at the Bike House. While in Ibagué it will be in the Combat Coliseum of the Sports Park. This initiative not only seeks to strengthen the skills of local fighters, but also inspire new generations of MMA practitioners.

After completing her treatment and seminars, Sabina plans to return to Las Vegas, where she currently resides. There she will continue with an appropriate recovery plan for her injury with the aim of returning to the octagons and continuing to compete at the highest level.

“After that I will return to Las Vegas with an appropriate recovery plan for my injury so I can fight again in due time,” he said.

Sabina Mazo’s return to Colombia, after six years of absence, is not only significant for her medical treatment, but also for the impact it will have on the country’s MMA community. Mazo hopes that her experience and knowledge will help new generations of fighters achieve their goals and dreams in the sport that she loves so much.

This is how Sabina reached the top of MMA

When he went to the United States in search of something like the “American dream,” he did so with a student visa. It was in January 2016 after graduating from Colegio Montemayor Sagrado Corazón. He wanted to continue his university studies in Medicine in that country. But, beyond that, trying to make a name for herself in what she has been passionate about since she was a child, mixed martial arts. She entered Orange Coast College OCC in Huntington Beach, California, where she settled to start a new life. There she began to study Nutrition and combined her free time with training. Far from her loved ones, but with the conviction of doing what she liked, she was showing herself in fight gyms until she had the opportunity to sign a contract with the LFA. There, in 2018, she was crowned Colombia’s first world champion in mixed martial arts. Thanks to her talent, the UFC noticed her and signed a contract to have 7 fights in the top company of this sport worldwide. She later returned to the LFA and repeated the world title in 2023.
