Cienfuegos will host three sports in the upcoming School Games: rowing, canoeing and badminton.

If badminton is one of the most popular sports in Cienfuegos, it has earned its space, to the point of being among the most outstanding provinces in the country in the practice and results of sports in the school and youth categories and among the territories with the most national titles in in this field, in addition to being among those that contribute the most athletes to national teams.

In the fifty-ninth edition of the school games, the southern Badmintonists regained dominance. Regarding how the province has prepared for the contest to be held from July 8 to 14 and its intentions, the commissioner of this sport in the Pearl of the South, Roberto Martínez Aroche, considers that due to the tradition achieved in Cienfuegos by badminton, ” which places us among the powerhouse provinces in sport, with the previous year’s result returning to first place in the school category, but after an Olympic cycle passes the boys move up the category.”

“This year with the athletes we have who are of a new generation, we aim to be among the top three in the country and remain in the elite at the country level. We will also compete in this edition of the School Games in para badminton in the category school with two athletes and waiting for what can be done with these new athletes, I can tell you that we are ready.”
