The Buenos Aires Legislature declared the Gender Violence Observatory ‘Now that they see us’ of Cultural Interest and for the promotion of the Defense of Women’s Rights and sexual diversities.

In the President Perón Hall there was an event with legislator Delfina Velázquez (Unión por la Patria); the founder of the observatory, Raquel Vivanco; the journalist, Franco Torchia; the parliamentary journalist, Amanda Alma and the graduate, Laura Oszust.

“This is a moment to be there, to occupy spaces and be in places where we have the possibility to say and do,” highlighted the legislator. And she emphasized: “Gender and diversity policies are not a superficial expense, but rather they have to do with recovering the work of human rights and social justice in our country.”

Vivanco explained: “We managed to impose an agenda in the media and on the political agenda, of a very large magnitude during all these years.”

The Observatory ‘Now that they see us’ was born in 2015 to “make visible and denounce sexist violence that affects the freedom and lives of women, trans, transvestites, lesbians and non-binary people.”

“The information it provides is intended as input for the design and implementation of public policies that guarantee the right to live in a society free of violence. In addition, it monitors laws, communication campaigns, workshops and investigations related to the different types of violence suffered by women and people from the LGBT+ community,” they highlight in the organization of the parliamentary tribute.
