After a day full of emotions and surprises in the BetPlay I-2024 Tournament, Unión Magdalena suffered a regrettable defeat against Cúcuta Deportivo, saying goodbye to the dream of reaching the grand final and promotion in Colombian professional football.
The Samarium team, which only needed a draw to secure its place, was overwhelmed by the Motilones, who won with a final score of 2-1.
The match, played at the General Santander stadium, saw Cúcuta take the lead on the scoreboard with a goal from Lucas Ríos in the 26th minute. However, Ciclón Bananero managed to equalize the actions just before halftime, with a goal from Dilan Ortiz at the edge of the first part.
In the second half, Unión came out with impetus in search of the goal that would ensure their qualification, but it was Cúcuta Deportivo who managed to make the difference. Valentín Robaldo, in the 58th minute, scored the goal that decided the fate of the match in favor of the local team. With this result, the Samaria squad depended on the match between Llaneros and Quindío. However, the Villavicencio team did its job and secured its place in the final of the tournament by beating the coffee growers 2-0 at the Bello Horizonte stadium.
