Due to the effect of rainfall, high levels of the flow of the Sinú River and the San Jorge River are recorded, which register levels above 750 cubic meters and peaks of up to 950 cubic meters, when The overflow level of the Sinú River is between 750 and 800 cubic meters.

“It means that at this time the most critical points of the Sinú River will surely present overflow along its length and width. In the San Jorge River, we are also presenting extremely high levels compared to historical records, with a dam break in the municipality of Buenavista, specifically in the Tierra Santa sector. “This would be reflected in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, in the Nueva Esperanza and Puerto Santo sector,” he said. director of the CVS, Orlando Medina Marsiglia, director of the CVS.

The first thing is that all the Municipal Disaster Risk Management Committees are activated, articulated with the Departmental Risk Management Committee and that this leads to exact synchronization with the communities, since the communities must be alert to what is being reported regarding river levels,” commented Medina Marsiglia.

“The second is rapid attention to the emergency in terms of humanitarian aid and also having yellow machinery deployed in the four cardinal points of our department, to try to mitigate in the most critical points what is occurring in terms of the rupture. of the dams,” the official added.

Montería Mayor’s Office responds to emergency

A team from the Risk and Disaster Management Office traveled to the town of Las Palomas to verify the effects and the increase in the level of the Sinú River, due to the increase in rainfall in the region.

During the inspection, carried out jointly with the community, 35 families affected by the rise in river level were registeredthose who are in self-shelters in the homes of family and friends until conditions improve and the water level decreases.

It is important to highlight that, due to the current situation, the community requested special attention in the control of vector-borne diseases, because cases of dengue have been recorded in the area.
