Meeting between port companies from Puerto Montt, Chacabuco and Austral with the governors of Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes, closed with a key collaboration agreement for the logistical future of these regions.

The president of the Board of Directors of the Chacabuco Port Company (Emporcha), Enrique Runin, positively valued the meeting of the South Austral Zone Ports Association of Chilean Patagonia, which brought together the boards of directors of the companies for the first time since its creation – in 2023. port authorities of Punta Arenas (Austral), Puerto Montt and Chacabuco, together with the governors of the three regions.

“We are very pleased to have participated as a board, and we will continue working to carry out within the framework of this Association both short-term actions, for example, in the area of ​​improving current port facilities, but -perhaps most importantly- , also in the projection of studies and initiatives aimed at looking at the port into the future,” said Enrique Runin.

The event brought together Patricio Vallespín (Los Lagos), Andrea Macías (Aysén) and Jorge Flies (Magallanes), who participated in a work session together with the boards chaired by Julián Goñi (Empormontt), Enrique Runin (Emporcha) and Gabriel Aldoney (Epaustral), of which the president of the Board of Directors of the Public Enterprise System (SEP), Paulina Soriano, and representatives of the Ministry of Transportation were also part.

Within the framework of the meeting, the boards of directors of the port companies worked on closing a short and medium-term work plan that will allow the Association to promote various projects, both at an operational and strategic level, to continue strengthening port and logistics development in the southern area of ​​the country, and deepening the relationship of these three ports with the connectivity and supply of the territories.

In that instance, the possibility of activating a proposal incorporated in the 2024 Budget Law was also reviewed, which consists of the generation of programming agreements between regional governments and state companies – including public ports – through which the former will be able to transfer regional resources to companies to finance investments of regional interest.

“These initiatives would allow us to continue working on connecting port development with the requirements of our regions and the need they have to develop their different economic and productive sectors, in addition to enhancing supply and connectivity through ports,” Runin added.

The president of Emporcha especially highlighted the signing of a work protocol between the three port directorates and the three regional governments, which took place at the close of the meeting, which establishes areas of cooperation in matters of investment, financing, and operation of the councils. City-Port coordination and contributions from the Association to the Regional Development division, among other aspects.
