Terrible fire in an important hardware store in the City: total losses

This Wednesday morning, around 8:40, a fire of large proportions broke out in the Zapata Goma hardware store, located at the intersection of the streets Vicente Zapata and Salta de Ciudad. The incident generated great commotion in the area and mobilized numerous emergency units. At the moment, no injuries have been reported and merchants in the area were evacuated.

Witnesses who were near the scene reported that the fire started in one of the hardware store’s warehouses, spreading quickly through the premises. “I was passing by and suddenly I saw flames coming out of the warehouse. “I immediately called the firefighters,” said one of the passers-by.

The hardware store employees, who arrived to start their work day, found the premises engulfed in flames.

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted and began working intensively to control the fire, which, in principle, would be under control. In addition, it generated chaos upon entering the City. The Police were also present, closing traffic on Vicente Zapata, Salta and adjacent streets, diverting vehicles through other arteries to avoid further inconveniences and guarantee the safety of passers-by.

Firefighters from the Central Headquarters, volunteer firefighters from Godoy Cruz, Guaymallén, Civil Defense personnel from the Province and the City are working at the site, with water support from the municipality. Edemsa personnel also went to the scene of the fire in order to carry out the corresponding power outages to facilitate the work of the personnel, so the entire block is without light. Likewise, volunteer firefighters from Luján were deployed with personnel to handle dangerous substances due to the toxicity of the material.
