The initiative seeks to reverse the socioeconomic situation of La Guajira and safeguard the heritage of the communities of Manaure.

The bill that seeks to reverse the socioeconomic situation of La Guajira with the reactivation of the Manaure Maritime Salt Flats was approved in the first debate of the joint fourth commissions of Congress.

This initiative was filed by the Government with an urgent message that seeks to reverse the socioeconomic situation of the department and safeguard the heritage of the communities of Manaure and contemplates three steps:

  • Capitalization of debts
  • Discharge of liabilities
  • Sustainable debt covenants

This project was presented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and contemplates the economic viability of the company and the generation of economic benefits for the community of the region.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Luis Carlos Reyes Hernández, highlighted that “For the Government, this support from the Congress of the Republic for this project in La Guajira is very important, since it will allow us to carry out key actions and investments, which not only promote productive development in the region, but also contribute to economic growth and reduce social gaps in the department.

This process is not carried out under Law 550 of 1999 because, although the law proposes the restructuring of companies to meet their payment obligations, it makes the reorganization of the productive unit difficult, the National Government announced.

The bill only needs debates in the plenary sessions of the House and Senate to become a Law of the Republic.
