Port city of Hai Phong seeks to expand cooperation with Cuba (+Photos)

We would like Hai Phong to be twinned with a Cuban town that has similar characteristics, said the party leader when receiving the Cuban ambassador here, Orlando Hernández, on a courtesy visit to that town, located about 110 kilometers east of this capital.

The intention, Tien Chau said, is to connect, cooperate and support in the fields of education, healthcare, agriculture and tourism, as well as promote investment and trade.

The member of the PCV Central Committee also highlighted that Vietnam and Cuba maintain a close fraternal relationship, full of friendship and loyalty, and have helped each other overcome all difficulties and challenges.

“Cuba has always been a faithful friend of Vietnam in general and Hai Phong in particular, both in times of war and peace,” he emphasized.

The party leader also informed the head of the Cuban state mission about the socioeconomic development of Hai Phong, considered one of the growth poles of the Red River Delta and favored by its strategic geographical location.

The city, he explained, has five types of transportation, including the airport and the international port system, which makes it possible to have a very attractive investment environment, both for national and foreign investors.

Tien Chau also expressed his aspiration that the Ambassador “become a bridge so that Hai Phong becomes twinned with a similar town in Cuba and we can cooperate in the fields of health, education, tourism and agriculture.”

Hernández, for his part, appreciated the opportunity to meet with the city authorities and said he hopes that Vietnam in general, and Hai Phong in particular, will continue to actively support Cuba in food security, implementing cooperation projects in agriculture and the production of animal feed, among others.

He also highlighted the fraternal relationship, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between both nations, which has been maintained for more than 60 years and is increasingly expanding in all fields.

The name of Cuba was linked to the history of struggle and resistance of Hai Phong since March 1972, when in the middle of the war against the invading troops of the United States, the Jigue and Imías ships docked, transporting 15 thousand tons of sugar donated by the Cuban people to his Vietnamese brothers.

Weeks after the arrival of the vessels, the United States decreed a blockade of the port of Hai Phong with mines and bombs, but the Cuban crews decided to remain there until the unloading work was completed and it was not until more than 10 months later that they were able to return to the port. Island.
