The international economic association CubaRus, an alliance between a Russian entity and the Weighing Instruments Manufacturing and Services Company (Pexac), will begin to produce scales and balances in the country.

The business link, which was presented in the context of the Cubaindustria 2024 event, comes to fruition after two years of productive strike, he told Granma Laura Hernández Baquero, general director of Pexac, who considers this alliance the possibility of “revitalizing the manufacturing of weighing instruments of different sizes.”

According to Hernández Baquero, the productions are aimed at all clients in the economy that require them, such as domestic trade, agriculture, the health sector, as well as ports and airports.

However, he clarified, in this first stage the catalog only includes industrial and commercial ones.

Regarding sales to the domestic market, the director of Pexac pointed out that they will be in foreign currency, with a percentage directed toward export, especially in Central America and the Caribbean, “a way to achieve replenishment of the industry that guarantees higher levels of production.” .

The link between Cuba and Russia for the production of scales and scales is part of the agreements between entities and business groups of the national industry with foreign partners, created at the IV international convention Cubaindustria, which closed last Friday in Havana.

During the event, five agreements were reached: between the business groups of the Light Industry (Gempil) and Electronics, the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, the Industrial Company for IT, Communications and Electronics, (Gedeme); in addition to the mixed Acuanova and others from Panama and Venezuela.

Additionally, “stockings for diabetic patients”, a product by the Mediatex Company of Gempil, and the new “Bolero” cologne, by the Suchel Fragancia Base Business Unit, were also presented.

Among Cubaindustria’s objectives is to attract foreign investment to revive its decaying industrial sector. The event was attended by more than a hundred participants from 22 countries, including Spain, Russia, China and Turkey.

This edition, the first since 2018, was carried out despite the “complex scenario” of the Cuban economy, still diminished four years after the COVID-19 pandemic, as highlighted in a press conference by Ernesto Cedeño Rodríguez, vice minister of Industries.
