A new case of gender violence in Antioquia It causes concern among the authorities, since there are already at least 29 cases of femicides that have been recorded in the department during 2024.

The most recent incident occurred on 22nd Street and 18th Street in the municipality of Yarumal, north of Antioquia, where Jhoana Ortiz Ayala, A 33-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner when she was on her way to his place of work in the town of Llanos de Cuivá.

After meeting the alleged perpetrator, Ortiz would have had an argument in which the man ended up giving him a lethal blow wound at chest level with a sharp weapon.

The woman was helped by several of her relatives and neighbors who took her to the local San Juan de Dios hospital where He died due to the severity of the injury. Hours later it was also learned that the alleged perpetrator He took his life in the village of El Backaldo, witness versions indicate that he was found hanging from a bridge.

Regarding the situation, the Municipal Mayor’s Office, through a statement, rejected what happened and expressed solidarity with the family of women and assured that they will continue working to eliminate gender-based violence in this town. They sent the community to reflect on the seriousness of these types of acts and indicated that only through collective actions can these types of crimes be prevented.
