During this week, a delegation from the Directorate of Human Rights and Family Protection of Santiago visited the Tarapacá region, where they met with various institutions to learn about the area’s reality, conducting training with the personnel of the different units in the area.

Colonel María Virginia Ruiz Bravo, Head of the Department of Family Protection and Vulnerable Groups, indicated that during this technical visit she met with directors and representatives of Sernameg, the Children’s Ombudsman’s Office, the Public Criminal Defender’s Office, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the National Institute of Rights. Humans where they addressed different topics of joint and coordinated work.

In addition, visits were made to the barracks in the region, supervising the operation of the Family Rooms, which deal with domestic violence and violation of rights procedures, verifying police procedures with different vulnerable groups, such as older people, people with different abilities, LGTBIQ+ community, women, migrants and Children and Adolescents (NNA), among others.

The officer maintained that “instructions and information were provided on the adoption of procedures related to the taking of complaints of children and adolescents in crimes related to Law 21,057, which cover sexual and violent crimes, trafficking and smuggling of children and adolescents, kidnapping and Abduction of children and adolescents, and all other violent crimes contemplated by law, and it was also found that police units have the necessary conditions to keep people deprived of liberty and comply with international standards related to them.

Finally, Colonel Ruiz pointed out that in this visit the tour to border checkpoints and possessions was considered, as well as the territorial units, talking with the personnel, learning about their working conditions and the different problems they handle according to their jurisdictional sector. , also coordinating training together with the Regional Section of Human Rights and Family Protection regarding these matters.
