A little over two weeks ago, repair work on the Highway Bridge began. In this first stage, the hanging scaffolding began to be placed from which the joint repair work will be carried out. It is worth remembering that a report from El Litoral put the road risk of the viaduct on the agenda, which was closed two weeks later.
Sources close to Vialidad Nacional told El Litoral that up to now the assembly of the structures between the two arches of the Carretero, near the ford, continues. “One is almost finished and the other is still moving forward,” they confided, adding that it is a complex process.

The novelty is that next week the scaffolding would begin to be assembled on the support where the Bailey Bridge is located, without a doubt the sector of the viaduct that shows the most deterioration. In this way, progress will be made in the different supports with simultaneous work planned in different instances.
“National Highways maintains as a priority to restore passability with the repair of the lowered deck, by raising it and repairing the Thormack joint, to finally remove the emergency metal bridge,” was what the national organization highlighted in one of its latest statements.

As described, the assembly mechanism is similar to that of the first two that are almost ready. The process includes the placement of a lateral descent staircase on the north side of the bridge; An advance ramp is located attached to the Carretero beams from which the scaffolding is mounted. From these hanging structures, the formwork for the corbels that go under the viaduct beam is assembled.

The works carried out by the company Construcciones CIC SA have a budget of $598,200. As highlighted to this medium, “the work is underway, the funds are secured and its execution is within the planned deadlines.”
These deadlines are between three and five months, meaning that the total repair will be completed by October at the latest. “The most important thing is to be able to remove the Bailey as soon as possible,” said the sources consulted.
