The peasant women demanded their participatory rights and several are joining the group that will work on local agrarian reform
With a very significant participation of peasants, indigenous people and Afro-descendants, on the morning of this Sunday, June 16, the Committee to Promote Comprehensive Agrarian Reform that will be developed in the district of Riohacha.
It was an event convened by a provisional committee that had the endorsement of the National Land Agency, an organization that has carried out the same work in the municipalities of the south of the department and this Sunday, they were summoned in Riohacha and Manaure in order to choose the leaders of the agricultural sector who will have the responsibility of working to support the acquisition of land.
Quite a demanding job
The selection of the directors of the Promotion Committee was not an easy task and at times the situation was quite tense due to the position of some leaders who demanded the right to participation only for them, the peasants, and then tension arose over the mechanisms. raised to make the election, but in the end the sanity and coherence of the agrarian leaders prevailed, who freely decided the names of those who will be on that promotion committee that must begin working immediately.
After the deliberations, the peasants elected president Jeinner Díaz Amaya; as vice president, he was Chosen Aniano Caro of the township Juan y Medio; the secretary is Fidel Second Loaiza Ortiz; prosecutor, it is Luis Carlos Ortiz; treasurer,, Silder Mejia and a good number of peasant women will be the members of the organization.
What’s next for this committee
According to what was expressed by the president, this committee now has the task of organizing an active agenda with all peasant and ethnic sectors that make important contributions to prepare the agrarian reform of La Guajira, where they aspire to be able to deliver at least 20,000 hectares to farmers who today have nowhere to farm.
Peasant women ‘standing on the line’
A very important aspect that did not go unnoticed was the participation of the peasant women, who came to this assembly with full conviction to demand their participatory rights in the organization and although it is true that not all those nominated achieved the right to integrate the committee, it should be noted that many presented their names and loudly supported the right they demanded to have participation in the committee.
