What happened?

During the early hours of this Thursday, June 20, a magnitude 4.3 earthquake in the Coquimbo region, when the clock showed 02:39 hours.

Where was the epicenter?

The telluric movement, according to the information provided by the National Seismological Center of the University of Chile, had its epicenter at 5 kilometers southeast of Tongoy, 51 kilometers deep.

For now, Senapred has not reported damage to people, infrastructure or basic services as a result of the earthquake.

What to do in case of an earthquake or strong tremor?

Check what material your home, school or workplace is made of. If it is adobe or self-construction, “you must evacuate immediately during an earthquake.”
Identify places of protection against a possible earthquake, moving away from windows and elements that could fall on them.
Identify where the water taps and general gas and electricity shut-off are. Learn how to use them.
Prepare a family emergency plan for an earthquake or tremor that establishes meeting points and roles to be developed by each member of the household. Also, keep an emergency kit for such cases.
Locate yourself in a place that protects you from an earthquake. Always stay calm.

Use text messages to communicate and have a battery-operated radio or TV on hand. Always follow official reports.
If you become trapped during an earthquake or strong tremor, stay calm and wait for rescuers to arrive. Also, hit the structure where you are trapped, but don’t scream and cover your mouth.
Have an evacuation plan ready at home and have a support network, especially for people with disabilities.
