Within the framework of the 63rd Bambuco Festival in San Juan and San Pedro, the Departmental Government “For a Huila Grande”, makes a vehement call to all the inhabitants of the department and visitors to maintain and update their vaccination schedules according to the Expanded Immunization Plan (PAI).

The Departmental Health Secretariat, led by Sergio Mauricio Zúñiga Ramírez, highlights the importance of vaccination to prevent serious diseases such as Yellow Fever, Measles, Rubella and Human Papillomavirus, among others. “These diseases can have severe consequences for people’s health and lives, but fortunately, vaccination has proven to be an effective tool for their control and eradication.”

“During the season of San Juan and San Pedro, hundreds of people gather in the municipalities of Huila to enjoy the festivities. This high concentration of people increases the likelihood of the spread of contagious diseases. Vaccination not only protects those who receive the vaccines, but also helps create a barrier of community immunity, protecting those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons” emphasized Sergio Mauricio Zúñiga Ramírez, Secretary of Health of Huila.

Diseases to prevent

• Yellow Fever: a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes that can be fatal. The vaccine is highly effective and is administered only once in a lifetime.

• Influenza: commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious respiratory disease that affects the nose, throat and, in some cases, the lungs. The best way to prevent influenza is through vaccination.

• Measles and Rubella: Highly contagious viral diseases that can cause serious complications, especially in children and people with compromised immune systems. The MMR vaccine protects against these diseases.

• Human Papillomavirus (HPV): Causes infections that can lead to cervical cancer and other types of cancer. Vaccination against HPV is very important for the prevention of this disease.

Actions of the Departmental Government

The Departmental Government “Por un Huila Grande”, through the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the hospital network, maintains vaccination points or house-to-house brigades available to facilitate access to vaccines.

Sergio Mauricio Zúñiga Ramírez, Secretary of Departmental Health, highlighted that, “we invite all Huilenses and tourists to come to the vaccination points and make sure they have their schedules up to date. The health of our community is a priority, and “Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect us all.”

“Vaccination is an act of responsibility and solidarity. Let’s protect our health and that of our loved ones during this holiday season. Get vaccinated and enjoy the Bambuco Festival with peace of mind and safety,” she pointed out.
