Maker Faire San José is a free fair open to the public, where makers, students and technology enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, companies, communities, and organizations will have the opportunity to present their science and technology experiments, innovative crafts , hobbies, and projects based on your skills. This event will take place next Sunday, June 30, at the CENFOTEC University, in its facilities in Barrio Francisco Peralta.

In this new edition, more than 2,000 people are expected to participate, including adults, youth and children, who will be able to participate and enjoy raffles, food trucks, workshops for all ages, exhibits and exhibitions and of course the national sumobot championship, where the participating schools have prepared by programming their best attacking defense. The fair will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“We are motivated and proud to receive another edition of the Maker Faire that is celebrated around the world, the main objective is to celebrate the culture of people who build their own things. We are very excited, because in this third edition the participation of schools willing to take on the challenge of programming code into their robots and devising the best combat strategy doubled. It is a party where people of all ages have a unique opportunity to share knowledge and learn or create things with their own hands. It is an unmissable event that everyone will enjoy.”, expressed Karla Jiménez, Marketing Director of the CENFOTEC University.

One of the most notable activities of this event is the Sumobot tournament, where students from more than 50 schools in the national territory will compete.recognized as the “pitched battle” between robots. Students in teams program Python or C/C++ a strategy to defeat their opponent and take into account attack, defense and evasion strategies. The robot that wins must push the opponent out of the “ring or dojo”. The university donated two robots per school designed and developed “in house” by the University robotics team led by Dr. Tomas de Camino, and students working on educational robotics research.

This is why the Maker Faire San José seeks for participants to become a manufacturer, a maker, or a “maker”, to connect with projects that they want to make themselves known in the country, and to be part of the “make it” philosophy. yourself”.

Additionally, this year the event will be dedicated to the “Red-Eyed Frogs.” Although Costa Rica is home to thousands of different species of plants and wildlife, perhaps none are as popular as the red-eyed tree frog that lives in this country. Locals and visitors alike will be excited to take a look at the exhibition presented by a team of UNED researchers where people will learn the importance of conserving this and other species in their environments.
