The designs of the students Luján Aguirre, Lourdes Barthaburu, Guadalupe Cianci and Sol Chaya won a competition organized on the occasion of the parade in Poland.

Tucumán fashion will land in Poland with the help of four students from the Textile Design degree at the San Pablo-T University. The young designers Lujan Aguirre, Lourdes Barthaburu, Guadalupe Cianci and Sol Chaya They made capsules that pay tribute to Argentine culture through shapes and textures. The Tucumán model Guillermo Layús, which represents Argentina in the eighth edition of the Mister Supranational beauty contest, will exhibit the creations.

It all started with Layús’s participation in the aforementioned contest, which is one of the most important fashion platforms in the world. The mentor Gerardo Mudarraa specialist in image and communication, organized a contest for young designers from the province to dress the model and show their art in Polish lands.

The local competition was carried out by the San Pablo-T University in collaboration with the Obispo Colombres School of Trades, where the teachers Marine Rivadeo, Silvia Martinez and Teresa Palavecino They worked with the students and supervised the materialization of the projects. The winning designs that Guillermo Layús will wear in the parade came from that talent factory.

This proposal belongs to the students Luján Aguirre (on Instagram @lujanaguirre07) and Lourdes Barthaburu (@lulibarthaburu). And it is inspired by this question: “what does Argentina represent from the mind of an Argentine?” It is a design that combines national colors and landscapes with ancient techniques such as weaving and looms. Related to the archetype of the gaucho, the design features a contemporary half poncho made with natural and regional materials such as wool and sheep fleece. The design also includes 3D printed accessories, which relate Guillermo Layús to his architectural career.

The design is signed by students Guadalupe Cianci (@guadacianci) and Sol Chaya (@sol_ch99), who were inspired by the motto “wearing homeland.” It is a set that reflects Argentine culture and history, and takes as inspiration the sugar mills along with the gaucho’s poncho. With Guillermo Layús’s grandfather’s jacket as a base, it incorporates architectural elements to connect with her profession. In addition, it pays tribute to the local economy and the hard-working man who brought the country forward.

It is not the first time that the four students and designers have won a competition with their works. On November 25 and 26, 2023, the students achieved second and third place in the LA GACETA challenge held in the first edition of the NOA Fashion Weekend, an event for the promotion of local and regional textile talent. The challenge was to create a garment made entirely of newspaper and based on a news story whose reading had caused a great impact. The second mention of the night went to Luján Aguirre and Lourdes Barthaburu, who set out to raise public awareness about deforestation. The high-impact headline was “In Tucumán there are not enough trees to protect us.” In third place, the participation of Sol Chaya and Guadalupe Cianci stood out, with a design that recalled the death of Vivianne Westwood (avant-garde designer and businesswoman who was characterized by her punk style).

Guillermo Layús will represent the country in Poland

This will be the first time that the Tucumán architect Guillermo Layús parades as a model. This young man received intensive catwalk and stage expression classes in Madrid, Spain, with Muarra. And his aspiration is to become the first Argentine winner of the Mister Supranational beauty contest. The final phase of the competition is scheduled for July 4 in Poland.
