PREFECT CHIEF INSPECTOR OF THE TARAPACÁ POLICE REGION, REAFFIRMS THE PDI’S COMMITMENT TO CITIZENSHIP IN THE 2023 PUBLIC ACCOUNT

Cristian Lobos, Prefect Chief Inspector of the Tarapacá Police Region, of the Investigation Police, PDI, during the 2023 public account highlighted the achievements during the past year for the institution and the challenges they faced due to the number of homicides that began the year and work to combat organized crime in the area.

The activity was attended by regional and community authorities and social leaders.

“For the Chilean investigative police it is an enormous responsibility to adequately fulfill our mission and what we are doing today in this public account is to inform the public about what we have done during the previous year,” said Lobos.

He also stated that “we have had important achievements and important challenges as well, we have overcome some, others are in development, the world and crime have a permanent dynamic, therefore it is a permanent challenge.”

The authority calls on the city to trust the institution, “because every day we put in our maximum efforts to respond to the requirements of citizens and live up to what our neighbors demand from the PDI.”

“In this act we reaffirm our commitment to continue working to contribute to the security of our region,” said the Chief Inspector of the Tarapacá Police Region.

Public account

The PDI staff in Tarapacá is 344 officials, of which 250 are detectives, who carry out investigative work in the region. Meanwhile, 94 belong to the different floors and ranks. Of the total staff, 116 correspond to women and 228 are men.

In statistical terms, during the year 2023, they prepared 387 analytical products, of which 77.4% are directly linked to police investigations, and the remaining 22.6% correspond to diagnostic reports of different criminal phenomena and some external requirements. he pointed out in the Lobos public account.

One of the points that stood out in the public account were the 11 homicides that month alone, a situation that generated alarm among the inhabitants.

“In response to this problem, the PDI in February 2023 formed a special homicide investigation team, with a staff of 20 detectives, from different regions of the country and different specialized areas, who with exclusive dedication and in direct coordination With the Iquique homicide brigade and with the public ministry that appointed a preferred prosecutor for these cases, towards the end of April, they managed to clarify 14 of the 17 homicides that had occurred up to that date. Which translates into 83% effectiveness,” explained Lobos.

In terms of combating organized crime, the institution managed to dismantle the transnational criminal gang Los Piratas, and arrested 20 members of organized crime gangs.

The replacement of 02 vehicles for the tactical reaction team was also carried out, whose vehicles are currently in the bidding process. With an investment cost of more than seven hundred million pesos.

In addition, the acquisition and replacement of technological equipment for the regional crime laboratory was carried out, with an investment cost of more than seven hundred million pesos. This project is awaiting approval by the regional comptroller’s office, to its subsequent bidding.

And he recalled that there is a total investment of more than one thousand eight hundred million pesos, 15 vans were delivered to our institution on June 7, while the remaining 19 units are awaiting approval by the comptroller’s office. for your tender.
