The governor of San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, had a fruitful meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Nation, Guillermo Francos, in which he agreed on national financing of key sanitation works and the OK for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) send funds for Route 40 South. After this, the Minister of Infrastructure, Water and Energy, Fernando Perea, confirmed that they will seek financial support for the continuity of housing construction.

In dialogue with the Amanecer Informed program, hosted by journalists Mauricio Laciar and Marcos Ponce, the head of the Infrastructure portfolio said that he will have a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Housing and Habitat, to request the continuity of neighborhoods that were stopped by lack of money.

“We must remember that Governor Orrego’s plan is to reactivate public works without funds from the Nation, in one way or another. What we come to see is what they would give us, we do not come to demand that they give us everything they owe us. Maybe we ask that they give us 100 works and they give us 10, but of those 10 they catch up with the debt that the province has by 2023,” Perea explained in this regard.

In this way, the idea is to ensure that the national government catches up with the debt it has with the State of San Juan in terms of public works. Thus, with the money that is collected, reactivate the construction of more homes.

It should be remembered that Orrego’s management has already reactivated almost 4,000 homes with provincial funds. This corresponds to 70% of the neighborhoods that are being built in the province, that is, 42 out of 60.

A dialogue that improved

According to Perea, these advances in the national financing of public works in San Juan are due to a paradigm shift by the Government of President Javier Milei.

“I believe that today the national government is a little clearer, their communication is more polished and they have in mind what they owe to each province and what they are going to give us,” he said.

In fact, the speed and organization that the Nation now shows were reflected in the results of this Tuesday’s meeting. Specifically, Orrego managed to unlock funds for the three stages of the Rawson treatment plant, located in Cerrillo Barboza, and the expansion of the sewage liquid treatment plant of the Jáchal subsystem.

In terms of drinking water works, the construction of the Gran Tulum aqueduct will continue, which will benefit 1,000,000 inhabitants and also the Tambillo-Rodeo.

Perhaps the most emblematic thing is the Government’s OK for the IDB to send the funds for the continuity of 27 kilometers of Route 40 South, in the section that connects Tres Esquinas to Cochagual. The thing is that Nación serves as “insurance” for the international organization to provide the loan to San Juan.

“After so many twists and turns, the hook was put on paper and the OK is now to start with some works, for which we had no answer and now we had one,” Perea concluded.

Fact

Perea will meet next week with officials from the Ministry of Education, dependent on the Ministry of Human Capital, to negotiate the continuity of school works in San Juan.
