Popayan, Cauca

New invasions of private property and clashes between communities occurred in three municipalities of Cauca.

Initially in the town of Guachené Afro communities denounced the attempted invasion of a property by indigenous people in the sector known as Llano de Tabla. In the events, one person according to the complaint was seriously injured.

The Secretary of Government of Cauca, Miller Hurtado expressed that “this corresponds to an interethnic conflict It has been present in the north of the department for several years. Now it is registered in a property that had security from the Public Force but when leaving, this type of crash was generated.”

In the town of Cajibío meanwhile, communities invaded two properties on the La Unión sidewalk where also damage to crops was reported.

Gerardo Arroyo, executive director of the Cauca Trade and Business Council, mentioned that “we reject the recent invasions and clashes between communities. It is urgent that the Government exercise its authority to apply the constitution in favor of the right to private property. Likewise, there must be prosecution for those responsible.”.

Finally in Caloto, confrontations occurred between two population groups for invasion of the El Chimán estate.

The manager confirmed that this type of actions in Cauca in the last three years have generated losses in productive sectors worth more than 14 billion pesos.
