Taps without water and lack of weeding marked interventions in the extended session of the megafire investigative commission
During the day this Wednesday, victims of the megafire that occurred on February 2 of this year in Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Villa Alemana, attended the Investigative Commission of the Megafire to provide background information and details that occurred in the emergency, which will allow progress in the search for justice and clarify responsibilities in the management of the emergency that resulted in the death of 137 people.
Deputy Andrés Celis was present at the event, who pointed out “if there is a common element, unfortunately, it is the lack of taps, I mean that they did not contain water inside. This has been constantly repeated by today’s guests. There is a nebula as to who is in charge of ensuring that the tap is in suitable conditions to be able to deal with the fire, and each of the guests we have had today has mentioned the issue of the taps. There is a dark, gray area in relation to that.
In that sense, the parliamentarian, a member of the investigative commission, assured that “the other thing is the issue of municipal work, I am talking fundamentally about Viña del Mar. Something was said about Quilpué, but I must admit that in lesser ways, in terms of weeding . It was also mentioned that in the case of Viña del Mar, the name of the person responsible was even given, that the weeding was not carried out completely and completely due to lack of resources. “It seems to me that this is an area that has to be thoroughly investigated, because if so, the Municipality of Viña del Mar is partly responsible for what happened.”
On the other hand, during the session, it was agreed to summon the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, and the national director of Conaf, Christian Little, for next Monday for complaints about concealment of aerial images and political hiring.
